Wing IDE for Python seems like a nice place to steal some ideas from: http://www.wingware.com/wingide/screenshots It has the bottom pane and right pane with tabs (for multiple functions). The thing that I'm missing the most is ability to toggle the bottom/right pane with F1/F2.
