    Frontiers of Multilingual Technologies
          Barcelona, 15-26 August 2011

=Overview=

This Summer School is aimed for students and scholars interested in
multilingual
technologies - particularly, in any of the following topics:

- computer implementation of natural language grammars
- multilingual systems for translation, localization,
  human-computer interaction, language education
- web and mobile applications of natural language technology
- novel applications of functional programming, type theory, compiler
construction
- hybrid systems combining grammars with statistic methods
- open-source natural language applications and resources
- deepening your understanding of languages via computer implementation

The school will give a thorough introduction to GF, Grammatical Framework
(http://www.grammaticalframework.org) and take the students to a level where
they
can contribute to research and software development in the field. It will
also give
a hand-on introduction to SMT (Statistical Machine Translation) and enable
the students
to build SMT systems with standard tools and hybrid grammar-SMT systems.

The first GF Summer School in 2009 attracted 30 participants from 16
countries in Africa,
America, Asia, and Europe. ranging from third-year students to full
professors.


=Programme=

First week (15-19 August): Introduction to GF

Second week (22-26 August): continued work in advanced tracks
- resource grammar track: large-scale grammar implementation for a new
language
- application track: web and cloud applications, Android apps, MT systems
- theory track: type theory, parsing, ontologies, hybrid systems
