Building HP 2014.2.0.0 without a bindist?

Hello,

I'm on an antiquated OSX and so I've been building GHC and HP from
source for ages. Despite the lack of official support, it's been
working just fine. The problem is, the latest HP replaced the old
makefile stuff with the new shake/hptool stuff— which requires access
to a GHC bindist tarball for some strange reason. Building from source
I, of course, have no such thing. So how do I get around that?
