Folks,

The two changes below have not yet been made in the
haskell-platform.cabal file or reflected on the wiki pages. This is an
advance warning.

OpenAL
------

We are inclined to drop OpenAL from this first release of the platform.
The rationale is that we cannot use the released version because there
are bugs preventing it from working on Windows and OSX. We could, at
very short notice, tag and release the darcs version but it also
includes API changes. Dropping it does not seem to be a major problem
because unlike OpenGL there does not appear to be such a large user base
for OpenAL.

Of course this does not mean it will never be in the platform. There is
no problem in having it proposed for the next major platform release,
though we will hopefully be setting the bar a little higher for new
packages compared to the "extra libs" which get a bit of a free ride.

HTTP
----

Looks like we'll have to bump the HTTP version to 4000.0.6 which the
maintainer released today. It fixes a bug which prevented cabal-install
from working with common http proxy servers (ie lots of users within
company networks).
